Does this set really replace a complete set of 5 needles?

Yes, that's exactly the idea. The stitches are distributed over two of the flexible needles and knitted off with the third needle. This reduces the number of needle changes per round and is found by many to be easier and quicker.

Is the "Long" version (30cm) suitable for socks or is it too long?
